After using the surfboard for a long time, it is inevitable that it will be bumped, dented, scratched, and hit rocks. For example, if it is like this below, it may even break, which is very painful. Does this situation mean that the board is broken? In fact, if you can learn a few techniques to repair the surfboard, soon your board will be the same as new, so every ronin can learn the following techniques!
1. Identify holes. If foam is exposed or foam looks discoloured, water will be inhaled soon, and glass fiber cloth shall be used to repair it immediately. If only scratches on the surface can be repaired with resin alone.
2. Prepare materials. If you buy an EPS surfboard, the epoxy resin will melt the epoxy resin foam. So if you want to repair a hole in your EPS board, remember to use only epoxy resin!
3. Clear. Remove the wax around the hole, cut off the damaged FRP chips, and let the water evaporate. If you forcibly repair the still wet surfboard, the water will be trapped in foam, and the board core will be easily burned.
4. Adhesive tape. Wrap the area around the hole with tape to avoid resin contamination.
5. Mixed resin. Place 30g of epoxy resin in a cup, add 10 drops of catalyst, stir evenly, and the specific amount depends on the size of the area to be repaired.
6. Cut cloth. Cut the fiberglass cloth into areas that can cover the holes.
7. Apply. Apply some resin with a brush and stick the fiberglass cloth onto the wet resin, then brush again to cover the resin. But don't use too much resin as it can cause dripping. You can place the board in sunlight to allow it to solidify.
8. Frosted. Once the resin and fiberglass have hardened, sanding can begin.
9. Apply again. If you are afraid of insufficient hardness or re indentation, you can lay a layer of fiberglass cloth.
10. Sanding again. When the board is completely cured, take some wet/dry sandpaper and repeatedly grind it flat, then clean it thoroughly, and the board will become shiny and bright.
11. Done, now your board has almost become a new one.
